The Beauty Of Self Becoming
Adolescence is one of the most powerful thresholds we traverse in our personal evolution. It is the ‘first gate’ in our journey of becoming in so many ways. In Western culture this stage of life can feel daunting and even isolating. Traditionally, cultures in the past honored adolescence with a Rite of Passage, a ritual to encourage and scaffold a young woman’s growth and evolution. This ritual also offered a ceremonial opportunity for the adults in the adolescent’s community to change the way they related to her, shifting away from seeing her as a child and welcoming her into a new stage of womanhood. This Rituel Life Passage is designed to support both the adolescent and adults who are guiding and mentoring her.
Becoming an adult in a Western culture is a long process, and this ceremonial experience can be customized to align with any time during this stage — from anticipating the onset of menses to when a young woman is ready to move out of her familial home. There are a myriad of phases in the adolescent/young adult’s passage that can be honored.
